Captions showing up in Grid Layout & Feature Image Question

Hello,
Is there any way to tell the theme to skip captions when doing the text preview for the grid layout? Most of my posts were written before feature images came about and so they have the following hierarchy: Post Title > Image > Image Caption > Body of Text… Etc. But in the grid layout the preview skips the image (so I have to set up feature image manually) but then shows an ugly mess of a caption before (if not at all) getting to the body.

For example:

The Symphony of Restive Stillness
By Rem / in shanghai / September 27, 2011

[caption id="attachment_866" align="aligncenter" width="700"] The Bamboo Forests of Moganshan[/caption] This is Moganshan, a mountain about 3 hours southwest of Shanghai. It was discovered by expat…

So of course I would like to get the caption id stuff removed, and start from “This is Moganshan…”. Anyway to do this?

As for my second question, if you don’t mind me putting two questions into one post, I’m a little peeved that the feature image shows up in the grid or normal blog layout but then when I click on a post, it disappears completely. I have not seen this with other themes, so it seems specific to OldCar. What I would like to see is the Post Title > Metadata > Feature Image > Body Text. Or, alternatively, I can just put the feature image back into the post with a caption, but then I run into the problem from my first question! This method doesn’t seem very elegant though…

Looking forward to some insight into this!

For the first problem, you can set the excerpt text manually. When you edit the post, if you can’t find the excerpt field below the editor, just click the screen option button at the top right, and select “excerpt” option, seeing this picture: http://d.pr/i/nrvw Then, you will find the excerpt field.

For the second, simply, you want to display the featured image at the top of the post content, right? Post your login information here with private reply, I will change the codes with theme editor, it’s a very easy problem.
