I’m having an issue with my Contact page. I want to have a page with the slug “contact” and use a different form plugin so I can add more questions and fields. I tried creating a new page with slug “contact-us” which worked fine. However, I changed the slug from “contact-us” to “contact” with a default template selected. The OldCar contact form automatically displayed, with the page contents shown to the right , below the default map graphic. I thought the contact page is only activated when you select the “Contact Page” page template from the drop-down menu. Just because the slug is “contact” doesn’t mean I want the theme to hijack the page. I’ve since customized other elements of the contact page, but I’m a bit unsure about adding form fields other than to use something like the ContactForm7 plugin. I really want to collect more info like phone number and how the users heard about my site. I tried to add the divs, but pages get wrapped in an extra div . Please advise, thanks.

      Current Contact page: http://www.bensonblake.com/contact
The one I want to use w/ extra fields at the /contact URL: http://www.bensonblake.com/contact-us

      Hi

Because “contact” is the preset slug, the solution is go to your theme folder /wp-content/themes/oldcar/
Find page-contact.php file, just rename it to page-contact-template.php
Then, “contact” slug will be available to use.

      Thanks

It worked! I’ve made the default contact slug “contactus”. Now the /contact page shows my Contact Form 7 form with extra fields. Thanks a lot for the advice.

      That’s great!
      It’s my pleasure!
