I think you haven’t inserted the logo to the theme option panel successful.Go to “Appearance > Widgets”, drag “OldCar: Recent Posts” widget to global sidebar area or page sidebar, but remember set the featured image for each posts first.
Yes, it’s only for gallery format post, but if all your posts is gallery format, then all post container to be wide size, you can’t get the effect as same as the demo site, only if the other posts is another format.
It’s a small defect in this theme, I will improve it and let users can control the width of container by theirself.Thanks!

1. If you want a post container to be wide, you should set this post format to “gallery” at the right side of the edit page. If you want it to show up above all posts, you can set it sticky, go to “Posts > All posts”, just click “quick edit” link, you will find “Make this post sticky” checkbox.
2. Don’t forget to set the featured image for each portfolio posts at the bottom right of the edit page.
